Solar Government Incentives in Australia

Nationwide Solar & Battery Rebates
Understanding government rebates begins with the Renewable Energy Target (RET) – a national scheme designed to promote renewable energy solutions across Australia.

What is the Renewable Energy Target (RET)?

The RET is a federal policy aimed at cutting carbon emissions and encouraging the adoption of clean energy systems, such as solar power and battery storage. Its goal is to generate an additional 33,000 GWh of renewable electricity annually through both large-scale solar projects and small-scale residential solar systems.
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), administered by the Clean Energy Regulator, offers homeowners and small businesses solar incentives including rebates and interest-free loans for installing eligible solar panel systems, battery storage, and renewable technologies.
By boosting solar adoption, the RET helps reduce energy costs, lower emissions, and create green jobs across Australia.

Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

STCs are tradable credits that reduce the upfront cost of installing a solar power system or home battery under the SRES. When you install an eligible system with Technaus, a CEC-accredited and New Energy Tech Approved Seller, you automatically generate STCs based on:
– Solar system size in kilowatts (kW)
– Installation date
– Your location/postcode
– Time left in the scheme (ends 2030)
We apply STCs as an immediate discount, reducing your total solar installation cost from day one.

Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program offers an upfront solar battery rebate
of up to 30% off installation costs. To qualify:
– Battery must have 5–50 kWh usable capacity
– Must be listed on the approved battery list
– Must be installed by an accredited installer
– Must be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) ready
– Must be commissioned after 1 July 2025 – (installations after 6 April 2025 qualify if not commissioned before 1 July)
The rebate is calculated at $372 per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh). Technaus systems
are preconfigured to calculate and apply these rebates automatically.

WA Customers: You can combine this federal rebate with WA’s state rebate for
even greater savings.

State-Based Solar & Battery Incentives

– Horizon Power customers: $750 per kWh, up to 10 kWh (max rebate: $7,500)
Eligibility:
– Battery must be 5 kWh or larger
– Must support Virtual Power Plant (VPP) participation

New South Wales – Battery Incentives Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (NSW)

The NSW Government is offering rebates for battery installation in an aim to reduce
peak demand and support grid reliability. Rebates available range from $1,600 to
$2,400 depending on the usable battery capacity (kWh)
Technaus software generates Peak Reduction Certificates (PRCs) based on system
